Movement is essential, there is magick in the dance.
The Dance
My movement practice is dynamic and in constant evolution, movement is a clear mirror for the body is honest in its innate expression. I also find it important as a woman to center my movement around my womb, many of us have felt disconnected from the creative center of our bodies, our wombs hold memory and when we have had to survive transgressions against our bodies, numbness is a natural coping mechanism. Womb centric movement activates what has been hidden or buried within the matrix of our emotional body, It is in this space where I found my strength and creative power. Our wombs hold memory, we carry the imprints of our grandmothers so in order to pass on a new imprint and regenerate the disempowered feminine, we must give ourselves permission to feel and move the stagnant energy. Fear paralyzes the body and shortens the breath, to dance and move is an act of defiance and courage as we willingly expand our bodies with each breath allowing every emotion to surface and be acknowledged. Dance is one of the most ancient means of expression, whether for grief or celebration we have all gathered as one human family for thousands of years to dance.
Our culture has become overly externalized, it values appearances, materialism and intellect over intuition, spirit and character. Our schools teach children from the waist up, we have become disembodied, thinking our way around the world. Moving our bodies freely and creatively can bring about much healing as we reclaim our authentic expression. Dance is revealing, the body never lies, it is wild and powerful, it is spirit made visible. I find it essential to bring the energy from the head into the womb, into the center of my being. In my humble observations most spiritual practices teach to bring energy upwards and to transcend the body in order to access the heavenly realms. I personally feel that women embody spirit through her senses, birthing is a downward spiral motion of energy and it is essential to move towards the earth in order to access her wisdom and to deepen with the elements of life. Women alchemize their stories not by transcending the body but rather by descending into her depths. Feminine spirituality lives within the flame of the heart and the blood mysteries encoded in the womb.
You don’t need to be a “dancer” to dance or a “singer” to sing. Of course it is inspiring to see people dedicate their lives to their craft and perform it passionately. However everyone who can walk or clap can dance and make music, these practices are ancient technologies that have preserved humanity for Millenia, oppressive systems of rulership have used tactics to cut people off from accessing their voice and their dance, therefore reclaiming dancing and singing as healing modalities and as our birthright is revolutionary. All who can talk can sing, we must get over the idea that if art is not monetized we must not even attempt it. We are all dancers, singers, storytellers, dreamers, visionaries because we are human, we all have unique gifts that impact the world we are creating. In order to share openly and boundlessly we must give ourselves permission to be vulnerable and open. My prayer is that we may reclaim the expressive arts as the most fundamental aspects of liberated human expression.
I propose that through movement we break the shell that guards and protects our ego and enter into a non-duality zone where all emotions and expressions are welcomed. We dance to befriend the shadow self as we work with archetypes to bring forth all that is hidden and allow it to have a voice. Dance cultivates self acceptance and love of ourselves as we embrace the fragmented parts without judgement. We center our focus in the womb space, remembering the seed of the seed and transform ancestral pain and begin to weave a new story. We reclaim our sense of self from the inside out as we shift the paradigm of shame and victimhood through a gentle self witnessing, through self compassion and love. Dance is a portal, it is language, a prayer in motion, poetry, it is embodied expression and it can be alchemical.
